ZwaarFris is a multimedia studio currently focused on two passions: game development and music. ZwaarFris the band is a creative project born within that studio, a way to share decades of original compositions with the world, now powered by modern tools including AI. Same people, different hat.
How are ZwaarFris and Bettonviel Software Development related?
ZwaarFris is the creative brand under which the music and games are released. Behind it sits the registered company Bettonviel Software Development and Multimedia Productions (KvK: 18075990). Same people, same passion, one legal entity.
Who are the composers of ZwaarFris music?
The music of ZwaarFris is composed by Erik Holtgrefe, Bert van der Horst, and Jurgen Bettonviel: three musicians with a shared obsession for blending genres and pushing boundaries.
What genres does ZwaarFris play?
ZwaarFris doesn't fit neatly into one box. The music collides classical with metal, ambushes jazz with funk, and smuggles Latin rhythms into hard rock. Somewhere between Irish mist and Arabian night, between whisky-dark grooves and storms of distortion. Heavy, refreshing, and the contradiction is the point.
Does ZwaarFris ever play live?
We've always been capable of performing our 'basic' compositions live, and that remains true today. While a professional recording studio is currently out of our budget, modern technology has given us the means to shape and share our music with the world, including AI tools that help bring our sound and vision to life. We've created a lot of music over the past decades, and now we finally have a way to share it.
If the demand is there, we'll practice until our fingers and limbs hurt and show up on stage. You have our word.

Yes, here you go. Kinda lo-fi, but these are the absolute basics.
LostKings
Is LostKings made by the same people as the band?
Yes and no. The game is designed and programmed by Jurgen Bettonviel, but the soundtrack is composed by ZwaarFris, the band, making it a true ZwaarFris collaboration: one foot in code, one in music.
What is LostKings about?
Lost Kings is a game based on the rules of chess, but with a twist. Players start with only their king (their army is lost), and during the game the kings gradually reclaim their forces to defeat the opponent's king. Think of it as chess turned inside out, with a fresh set of tactical opportunities that reward both strategy and adaptation.
What game modes does LostKings have?
- › vs AI: take on a computer opponent solo
- › Puzzle mode (solo): both kings must survive to win, a unique twist that flips the usual objective
- › Puzzle mode (co-op): the same puzzle mode played together with a second player
- › Competitive multiplayer: head-to-head matches against another player
